Viswaroopam may be banned in tamilnadu
Intensifying protest against actor-director Kamal Hassan's upcoming movie Vishwaroopam, various Muslims organisations today petitioned Tamil Nadu government seeking a ban on its screening, claiming the film depicts their community in a negative light.
With barely two days left for the movie's release, a group of 20-odd organisations now working under a common banner submitted a memorandum with Tamil Nadu Home Secretary R Rajagopal to press for their demand, a day after they took up the matter with city police.
M H Jawahirullah, MLA and President, Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam, said in chennai that the movie targets Muslims and their beliefs. A statement from Mohammed Haneefa, coordinator of the Federation of Islamic Movements and Political Parties, said that Muslim community will not accept such portrayal and even if certain scenes were deleted.
We intend to register our apprehensions that release of the film with (even) deleted scenes or changes would affect the social harmony and all-round peace in the state, he said.
The move by the Muslim communities comes days after Kamal Haasan, who directs and stars in the movie, held a special show for them.
